earth hour
The weekend is here, although there seems to be never ending work to be done and revised. Still, I can't help but promote 2 events here.
First of all, there's this event called 'Dining in the Dark' at NUS. Not that I am a big fan of NUS since I am in NTU, but this event is organised by Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped. I shall give you people a brief description of what it is about. It literally means dining in the dark. There is a place where visually handicapped waiters/waitresses serve you food while you eat in complete darkness in a room. They will also give you tips on how to survive in the dark. I guess this will really be a meaningful experience for many. We may learn to cherish our eyes more and stop tiring them out in front of the computer daily. It's really not easy for the blind to serve the workforce but yet I have seen strong-willed and determined individuals working back when I was part-timing at Tanjong Pagar.
Up next, is the Earth Hour event tomorrow night at 2030 hours. Here's the video, you guys can watch it. Basically, this campaign attempts to create and increase awareness on the plight of our dying planet. Yes, despite you having electricity at the flick of a switch, the planet moans when you flick that switch. Hence, we want to let our planet rest for one hour tomorrow, by switching off all lights in your house. I don't think it will have much effect on saving the Earth considering the amount of damage done, but what matters is the acknowledgement people give in recognising the danger of losing our environment. Although ultimately, I believe people in general will get complacent and forget about this, but still, nothing's not worth trying.
