When the cold wind blows
Hey I know I am late by one week, but it's better late than never right? At least I am still alive. Haha. Anyway, I've been living in Laramie for a month now, and really, if you have lived in a freezer for 1 month, there's really no other place you can't survive in. Oh wait, there's still the desert. Heh.
The past 2 weeks had been busy ones. Lot of stuffs happened, good and bad, but it's all part of learning and experiencing life outside of Singapore. Exams and tests are mostly held this week and next week, hence everyone's in the mugging mood, well, us being the exception of course. I have been skipping class too. =x So anyway, it's mainly about food these 2 weeks.
Putting your concern elsewhere, we had our own Potluck two Saturdays ago. Well, obviously Singaporeans don't really know how to cook, so Emman (from Philippines) whipped up some of his specialties from home for us. & Really, Asian food tastes damn good when you are in a Western country, and on a more serious note, his cooking is awesome.
This dish is called the "Atobo". I have no idea what it means, but it's basically like our sweet and sour dish back in Singapore, but of course with a lot of twists in it. And it's awesome. I don't even know how to put it. Hmm orgasmic maybe?
And since we have a Muslim with us, Nurul and I went to the Mosque early in the morning in search of Halal meat, so that she can eat the Atobo too. The mosque is just a house with prayer rooms inside, further down from our classroom building. We were introduced to the caretaker and his family. I even got a free copy of the Quran.
This is the dining room inside the mosque. They purchase meat from Denver & slaughter them in a house nearby. Of course, they did their prayers and stuff, which I won't try explaining. I was also introduced to his wife. I almost shook her hand when I realised married muslim women aren't allowed to touch other guys. I was so embarrassed. And I swear it wasn't on purpose.
Moving on, the International Students Office (ISO) extended their welcome to us by organising a tea reception (it was supposed to be a dinner, but oh wells). There was Brie (French Cheese) and biscuits, although we were expecting more food...
We met a guy from a Fraternity, Tom, who told us more about Greek life. For those who don't know what Greek life is, they are sororities and fraternities, where students of the same gender stay together in the same house. You know, like those hot American parties where there are wet T-shirt contest and chucking of beer? That's what it is, but obviously they aren't as wild as what you've seen in the movies. And why is it called Greek life? It's because all their names used Greek letters, for example like Kappa Kappa Gamma So we had a little lesson about Sororities and Fraternities. Anyway, we are invited to lunch at his Fraternity, so we will see how it goes from here. Again, a picture of us.
The Saudi Arabian guy in the back is called Reda, and he is freaking rich. His family has 4 cars, a few of unheard brands and a Rolls Royce. And his house is the size of my dining hall. Moreover, he has his own pool and garden. I am sure he was lying about not having his own private jet. Seriously. I am going to start digging under his house soon.
Last Saturday was Pink Ribbon day. We went for the Cowgirls' basketball match and found everyone already in pink.
Cheerleaders in pink.
Pom Squad (dance) in pink.
The band in pink.
Even the mascot was in pink. Haha. He looks adorable right? He's this lively big Cowboy who dances around the arena whenever we scored a point. He hosts most of the events during halftime and timeouts too.
And of course, why would we let this big flurry creature go without taking a picture?
Apparently, he's quite tiko & horny as well.
The cowgirls won again. =) Attending basketball matches is quite a routine for us nowadays. Entertainment in Laramie is scarce , hence, we will just grab hold onto whatever we can. It's lively with people cursing at referees and we get free t-shirts too! On top of that, you can curse hokkien bad words and no one will understand you. Cool shit. & I don't think I will ever watch a basketball match back in Singapore.
After the game was the monthly International students potluck organised by the International student's association. Being guests as well as hosts, we can't go there empty-handed. Hence, I did 2 dishes. Sweet & sour prawns and black pepper spaghetti with mutton.
Now, to the venue we rush... & everyone's there already. Haha. We were late by a bit because the coach couldn't locate the apartment we were at. Nonetheless, we were still in time for dinner!
Dinner comprises of food from all over the World. There was curry, naan, beefballs, cheesecake, weird-looking shell-like dish and of course, my prawns & spaghetti. There were lots of other dishes as well. I wasn't taking the food though, I was taking pictures of them taking the food. Haha.
The food was delicious, whatever they were and however they were cooked. Haha. There was a game after the dinner too. And it was a rowdy crowd, to my displeasure. Probably because I am too old for such games.
And here are my new found Nepal & African friends. Haha. Cool right.
In all, it's quite fun to see people from all over the World around you. That's what good about going on an exchange. Meet new people, experience new culture, see new babes. Haha. Oh, & I'm so happy my eye candy loved my spaghetti. Hahaha. At least, I didn't cook in vain. Hope she doesn't get food poisoning though.
Anyway, I really missed playing in a band. Everytime I see them performing at the basketball matches, I just have the urge to jump in and snatch one of the saxophones away and start playing. Haha. Oh wells, the good old days.
Of course, here are some cute guys for the girls out there. The pictures aren't really big, because I was at Miami the time they took this. If I were there, I would have requested for a close up picture. Cute guys like me should take pictures with cute ang moh guys. The girl below is from Costa Rica while the guy is from Germany. The cuter guy in the picture further down is from Netherlands. He's hot stuff I tell you. Even I feel like dating him.
Lastly, bringing out the ah-tiongness in me.
I will be going to Fort Collins this weekend for shopping! So stay tuned for more pictures!
